Why it matters

Editing by description while leaving everything else intact is the part that generic image models still get wrong.

Google's image model with precise control, stronger text rendering, and world knowledge.

Nano Banana 2 interface

Nano Banana is the nickname that stuck to Google's image editing model, and editing is the operative word. The capability that matters is targeted change: alter this one thing and leave the rest of the frame alone, keep the same character recognisable across a series, blend several reference images into one scene. Generic image models tend to regenerate the whole picture and lose everything you liked about it. Note the naming is unstable — Google has shipped this under more than one label, so check which version a given surface exposes.
